Charlottesville/Apple Picking
We went to Charlottesville for the weekend and to go apple picking! We went up on Friday and visited Monticello (we didn't go up to the house because it was a bit overpriced!) and to the University of Virginia. The fall colors were WONDERFUL!!!! The girls had a great time. Saturday (today) we got up and went to the top of the mountain to Carter Mountain Orchard to pick apples. We started off with some apple cider donuts and hot apple cider. It was a perfect crisp fall morning. The girls loved the donuts and cider. We then met our friends, Mel, Reggie, and Gabby and headed up to the apple trees. We picked 19 pounds of Fuji apples! Yum! We purchased some pink lady apples as well. We were going to pick them but the kids were getting restless. We also got some apple butter and some wine because the orchard also has a vineyard. We went back into Charlottesville and had lunch at Belmont BBQ. Yummy good! Eric noticed some OU socks hanging on the wall and asked and the owner is from Norman, OK! Small world and no wonder the BBQ was so good. We came home after that and the girls and I made some applesauce from some of our apples. Abby wants to make a pie so I will do that sometime this week!
